UAV-IR imaging

Thermography or infrared (IR) imaging is a non-destructive measurement technique, which provides fast, real-time, and two-dimensional distributions of characteristic features of PV modules. It can be used as a contactless method for diagnosing some thermal and electrical defects in PV modules and electrical components. The measurements can be performed during normal operation of the PV plant.

Temperatures differences between the cells and areas of the module indicate potential defects such as PID, cracks, hotspots, defective bypass diodes, etc.

IR Electrical components

Thermal imaging is used to diagnose and locate points of failure in the electrical panel components and all connection points. When there is a system failure these will often show a high temperature. This test is very important, since in addition to losing energy, in many cases overheating can lead to fire and even real danger. The test is recommended to be performed as part of the routine maintenance procedure.

I-V Curve measurement

An I-V curve is a graphical representation of measured current (I) and power as a function of voltage (V). I-V curve tracing is integral to your evaluation of PV module performance and diagnosis of degradation in power output.

Electroluminescence

Electroluminescence (EL) is an optical procedure for a qualitative assessment of module failures. In general, the difference in brightness is evaluated between and within the solar cells. The intensity of an optical feature depends on exposure time and applied current. A bright illumination shows a high activity of the cell associated with a high production capacity. Dark and black areas are showing a bad performance linked to defective cell-structure like cracks, islanding or degradation.
